Bec the Boxer

She may look sweet and harmless but don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

One of our new staff, Bec Shaw has been making a name for herself in the boxing ring . She won her division in the Tasmanian championships and will soon be punching it out in the Nationals. Not only was she featured in the Mercury newspaper but on Friday morning, Bec was interviewed by Mel and Kochie on Sunrise. She was an absolute star, with no sign of nerves, and quickly put Mel in her place when she commented on how aggressive the sport was. After showing her guns to Kochie, Bec was back to work at the salon, putting her powerful hands to good use - with head massages!

We wish Bec all the best in the Nationals. She’s sure to be a hit!

Nischler Style Report

15th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party Victoria Beckham poses outside the new Georgio Armani store on New Yorks swanky 5th Avenue prior to its opening party Rihanna leaving her hotel in NYC

On a regular basis, the team and I will share with you the most sought after hair styles, as requested by our clients.  We’ll give you our professional opinion of each style and seek to help you determine if the style is right for you.

So what’s popular in the salon at the moment?

Bobs. That favourite classic in all shapes and sizes is still very vogue - Victoria Beckham’s concave bob continues to attract a lot of requests.

We really like Victoria’s new “pixie” style - what do you think?  Actually, that’s a good idea for a future post - we’ll road-test the two styles for you.

Undercuts. Think Rhiannah. Not her current heightened do (the one before that), not that we don’t like her tall hair, but it’s probably more suited to a celebrity head and the streets of NYC!  If you’re interested in the undercut style, keep a look out on the blog, we’re planning to road-test this style next week.

“Rock Chick” haircuts are also big right now, as are defined fringes, but a little more about these styles in coming posts.

Gentlemen, we haven’t forgotten you!  We’re already working on a post to report on what’s hip in mens’ cuts - stay tuned!

Alex Kontos: 2009 Australian Apprentice of the Year

In Sydney last night, the much anticipated Schwartzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards were held and Nischler had two very worthy finalists: Matt Nischler for Australian Hairdresser of the Year, and Alex Kontos for Apprentice/Student of the Year.

It was such an exciting night for Alex who won her category, making her the first Tasmanian to ever win one of the major awards at Hair Expo. Congratulations!!

Unfortunately, Matt didn’t take home the title (awarded to Caterina Di Biase from Heading out Hair & Beauty, Melbourne) but to be recognised as one of the top ten entrants in Australia is a massive achievement in itself.

So, whoever says Tassie is lagging behind the rest of Australia when it comes to talent in hair and fashion, kindly eat your words!  Nischler has proven that we are matching the best of the best and even kicking some seroius butt! Well done Alex!

To see footage from the awards, including Alex’s very modest acceptance speech, visit Culture TV.

You can view Alex’s winning collection below.

The great thing about a blog is that everyone can get involved, so feel free to respond to any of our posts or drop us a line and let us know what you’d like us to write about.

We hope you enjoy the blog!
